As one Catholic to another, I have a message for abortion-obsessed Joe Biden: stop pretending to be Catholic.
The Catholic Church officially condemns all abortion as always killing a unique and innocent human life, a condemnation supported by the Bible (see Jer. 1:5 and Lk. 1:41, 44), by science, and by early Christian writings. For instance, the Didache — a collection of the 1st century sayings of Christ’s apostles — states clearly, “[Y]ou shall not murder a child by abortion nor kill that which is born.” But Joe Biden, who pretends to be Catholic, exhibits a passionate zeal for promoting and celebrating abortion. He is therefore publicly and enthusiastically in violation of Church teaching, and should stop pretending that he is Catholic.
LifeNews wrote of Joe’s Manassas, VA, abortion rally that “Biden advocated for codifying Roe v. Wade into law. Both Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris condemned Republican efforts to protect the unborn as they spoke before a massive ‘RESTORE ROE’ banner.” Biden also bashed his likely presidential opponent Donald Trump for having appointed the justices who overturned Roe. The Supreme Court rightly ruled in 2022 that Roe v. Wade (and its claims of a right to abortion) was unconstitutional, returning the issue to the states. LifeNews noted that the Biden administration has been the most anti-life, pro-abortion administration in the history of the United States, including support for unrestricted abortion up to birth, despite Biden’s supposed Catholicism. It’s particularly hypocritical that the Biden administration claims to oppose racism, when abortion has racist roots, and was still the leading cause of death for black Americans in 2020.

The local Catholic bishop in whose diocese the rally happened wasn’t impressed by “Catholic” Biden’s behavior either. Bishop Michael Burbidge released a statement calling out the deceptive language of pro-abortion activists, describing the pro-life care that should be offered to pregnant women, and critiquing Biden’s actions. Burbidge has exhibited somewhat leftist tendencies before, including forming an “advisory council on racism” in 2020 and, more recently, severely restricting the traditional Latin Mass in his diocese. It is encouraging, therefore, to see Burbidge take a stand against abortion and for life.
“President Biden has made abortion the centerpiece of his campaign,” Burbidge began his statement. “At a rally in Manassas, VA, he advocated for codifying Roe v. Wade into law. It is incredibly devastating to know President Biden would place ‘choice’ over his sacred duty to protect life.”
The bishop explained that Biden’s rally happened only a few miles from the Manassas Mother of Mercy Free Medical Clinic. At the clinic, the Diocese of Arlington’s Catholic Charities provides “free prenatal care to pregnant women in need and their unborn children.” Burbidge stated that, in the year after the Dobbs v. Jackson decision that overturned Roe, “the Diocese of Arlington delivered $877,000 in free medical care to more than 1,000 women. Going further, the diocese also provided rent and utilities assistance, nearly 400,000 diapers, and 4,000 cans of formula to families in need.” Now that’s what a Catholic should be doing — helping mothers choose life by providing the care and tools they need to have their babies. Burbidge:
Despite what this administration claims, taking the life of an innocent child is never a “choice.” Women who are facing unexpected or difficult pregnancies deserve assistance that affirms and supports life - not destroy it.
Abortion remains the preeminent civil rights issue of our time, yet, just yesterday, the Biden administration announced renewed efforts to increase access to medically unsafe prescription abortion pills. This is clearly not about women's health.
It’s not. Surgical abortions kill babies in horrific and excruciating ways, while abortion pills essentially starve unborn babies to death. Abortion also traumatizes the mother and is never necessary to save the mother’s life. The Catholic Church condemns abortion because it is evil and destructive for everyone involved, a violation of the right to life that the Founders knew God gave to everyone. And until Joe Biden can recognize that fact, he needs to stop pretending he is Catholic.
