Today in history is the anniversary of the passage of the 13th Amendment in the House; when it became law, it abolished slavery once for all in America. But despite the end of slavery long ago, Democrat leaders today still think of themselves as superior elites with the right to oppress, punish, and silence Americans at will.
Censorship, surveillance, smear campaigns, violent riots, jailing of political dissidents, weaponized lawfare against political opponents… Democrats today are certainly the party of authoritarianism. The Democrats/Confederates lost the Civil War and their slaves in 1865, but they are still as elitist and anti-freedom today as ever they were. Their tactics and rhetoric and outward appearances might have adjusted, but their deep-seated love of tyrannizing over others and restricting freedoms is the same.
Thanks to energetic efforts behind the scenes by Abraham Lincoln and his allies, the 13th Amendment passed the House of Representatives on this day (Jan. 31) in 1865, despite strong Democrat opposition, in the waning days of the Civil War. Lincoln had run and been elected on his position that slavery had to be totally abolished, and the House finally followed the Senate’s lead and fulfilled Lincoln’s great goal. The Republicans had achieved what the greatest of the Founders had aspired but failed to do.
Unfortunately, Lincoln did not live to see the amendment ratified, as he was murdered by Confederate sympathizer John Wilkes Booth in April 1865 for daring to express support for full civil rights. At Republican Lincoln’s death, his racist Democrat VP Andrew Johnson took over, and civil rights progress was seriously retarded. But without expatiating in detail on Democrats’ past history, it is enough to say that their leaders never really abandoned their elitism, their racism, and their contempt for the Constitution. They simply became cleverer about accomplishing their aims.

I have already written about the similarities between 18th-century Democrats’ rhetoric defending slavery and their propaganda now defending illegal alien labor. But that is only one area where modern Democrats have proven their disdain for Americans and the Constitution. There is the Biden administration’s censorship-industrial complex, weaponized lawfare, mass arrests of Jan. 6ers and pro-lifers, war on guns, and campaigns to impoverish Americans through inflation and climate alarmism. The Democrats now want us on virtual plantations as surely as their predecessors wanted black men on literal plantations.

Today is also the anniversary of the birth of Jackie Robinson, the first black American to play in baseball’s Major Leagues. He once said, “I’m not concerned with your liking or disliking me…All I ask is that you respect me as a human being.” Unfortunately, that’s exactly where Democrat leaders seem to fail. They don’t respect American citizens; they act as if we exist for their personal profit and benefit. In fact, they act as too many slave owners did before the historic 13th Amendment was passed. Thank God we voted so many of the Democrats out of office in the 2024 election.
