Is This 'The View's' Dumbest Moment to Date?

It hasn’t been a good week for “The View.”

That comes with a huge asterisk since the syndicated show often wallows in crosstalk, uninformed opinions, and glaring double standards.

Here’s one to define the latter: Co-host Joy Behar, who raged against Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court bid, said she would vote for Bill Clinton again because she likes his politics… ignoring his history of sexual abuse allegations. Behar also once referred to the women who alleged Clinton sexually harassed them, or worse, as “tramps.” She later apologized.

This week was worse all the same.

We learned about the creepy banter between actor Neil Patrick Harris and “View” star Whoopi Goldberg on the set of the 1988 movie “Clara’s Heart,” including this bizarre suggestion: “She told me, I was 15, 16 years old, she told me on my last day of shooting that in 10 years’ time she was going to have sex with me,” Harris said.

This is the same “View” host who famously said director Roman Polanski wasn’t guilty of  “rape rape” with a 13-year-old girl. For the record, the “Rosemary’s Baby” director plead guilty to drugging and raping the girl in question.

More embarrassments for the show followed this week. The show has been savaging Kavanaugh for weeks based on the flimsiest of charges against him. The show has essentially dubbed him guilty during that process.

Co-host Sunny Hostin attacked First Lady Melania Trump for saying evidence matters in sex assault cases. Hostin, a legal analyst by trade, took that one large step further. “[W]e finally said a woman’s word is enough. I’ve taken many cases to trial with just a woman’s word,” she said.

The show’s conservative-leaning hosts, Meghan McCain and Abby Huntsman, pressured Hostin on her comments. The “View” regular didn’t back down. “Testimony is evidence! You don’t need corroborating evidence,” she said. “You don’t need a rape kit. You don’t need witnesses because oftentimes, guess what? There are no witnesses during rape! When you’re talking about evidence, testimonial evidence is the very best in the system…. You don’t need a witness. You don’t need forensic evidence. You need someone’s truth, and we heard Dr. Ford’s truth.”

Just imagine the legal can of worms that thinking could produce. Politicians could be ruined by a single accusation. Ideologues could use that as a cudgel against anyone with whom they disagree.

A key issue with Christine Blasey Ford’s accusation against Kavanaugh was that she could back up little of what she accused Kavanaugh of. The witnesses she cited couldn’t confirm her account. And Ford couldn’t share any other details of the alleged attack, including the date and the location.

In Hostin’s world, that would be enough to convict a potentially innocent man.
