U2 frontman Bono spent some time with his old friend, former President George W. Bush at Bush’s ranch in Crawford, Texas, on Friday, ahead of his band’s concert in Arlington.
Bush said Bono came to talk about the work of the Bush Center and their shared mission of fighting HIV/AIDS and saving lives in Africa.
Bono shared a photo taken with Bush at the ranch on Instagram, giving him credit for his AIDS work and warning against President Trump’s proposed budget.
“More than 11 million people are alive today thanks to this man’s creation of PEPFAR, the U.S. AIDS program that has been saving lives and preventing new HIV infections for over 10 years, with strong support from political leaders right, left, and center. That progress is all at risk now with President Trump’s budget cuts, which will mean needless infections and lives lost,” Bono wrote on the Instagram page of his ONE campaign non-profit, which works to fight extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa.
Bush shared the same photo in an Instagram post of his own, saying:
Bono is the real deal. He has a huge heart and a selfless soul, not to mention a decent voice. @laurawbush and I are grateful he came to the ranch to talk about the work of @thebushcenter, @onecampaign, @PEPFAR, and our shared commitment to saving lives in Africa.
U2’s sold-out concert was set to begin at 7 p.m. at AT&T Stadium, with opening act The Lumineers. The band began their Joshua Tree Tour 2017 in the United States in Seattle, Washington, on May 14. They will be performing in the U.S. through June, with their last performance in Cleveland, Ohio, on July 1.
