Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) got a little testy on Friday, saying he “doesn’t give a sh*t” after a CNN host insinuated that he was “two-faced” for supporting President Trump.
During an interview this morning, CNN’s Kate Bolduan wondered how Graham could trust Trump when his “words no longer matter.”
The senator explained that the president has “a style that is unique to him” but what he is interested in is “results,” especially where it concerns Russia and Iran’s involvement in Syria.
Graham suggested that the president is trying to “find a way to have a breakthrough in terms of Russia’s misbehavior.”
But Bolduan wanted to focus on the Republican lawmaker’s bumpy relationship with Trump, where he’s gone from “hating him, making fun of him” to “finding peace with trying to work with him,” even though the president still lashes out at him from time to time.
“Do you trust him now?” she asked.
Graham answered in the affirmative, saying, “Yeah, I like the president.”
“I trust him in terms of trying to do things that are big and matter,” he continued. “I’ve got a relationship with the president at a time when I think he needs allies,” the senator added.
“People say this is two-faced,” Bolduan shot back. “Where’s the Lindsey Graham of standing up to Donald Trump?” she asked.
“Well, I’ll tell him when I think he’s wrong,” Graham answered. “But let me just tell you about the critics. When I worked with President Obama — and I did on occasion — I was a hero. Now when I work with President Trump, I’m two-faced. I know how the game’s played and I don’t give a damn.”
He continued: “I’m going to do what’s best for the country, I like the president, I want to help him. I hope he’s successful. He’s been a friend to me and he says some things I don’t agree with. So if you don’t like me working with President Trump to make the world a better place, I don’t give a sh*t.”
