I’ve spent years trying to educate people about what a terrible and corrupt president Barack Obama was. I’ve even written a few books about him. Unfortunately the people who needed to learn and accept the truth the most were the ones least likely to want to know the facts. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been accused of being racist for criticizing Barack Obama. Apparently, criticizing the policies of a black man is racist by default. You know how it works. Liberals long ago figured out that the best way to avoid debates on policy is to simply call their opponents racists.
But something seems to be changing. For the longest time, Obama could do no wrong in the eyes of the left. They didn’t blame him when unemployment hit 10% even after he promised his stimulus plan would keep the unemployment rate under 8%. They didn’t blame him when gas prices hovered around $4/gal for a few years. And, of course, they turned a blind eye to his frequent scandals.
Since leaving the presidency, he’s remained very much revered by the left. Why? Because it wasn’t enough for him to be the first black president. History had to show he was one of the best—hence the reason why so many of those presidential rankings put out by “experts” in academia have put him almost consistently in the top ten or fifteen.
But it’s starting to feel as though the tide is finally turning against Obama, as the Israel-Hamas war has given some on the left “permission” to be critical of The First Black President™ for the first time.
First was Alan Dershowitz, the famed Harvard Law professor, who recently told Maria Bartiromo on Fox News Business that Obama has a “deep hatred of Israel."
“I think he always had a deep hatred of Israel in his heart. He hid it very well. He called me to the Oval Office, and he said Alan, you know I have Israel’s back. I didn’t know he had a target on it. He has never been supportive of Israel. And finally, his true feelings have come out now that he’s no longer president, doesn’t have to be elected.”
"He's never been supportive of Israel. And finally, his true feelings have come out now that he's no longer president and doesn't have to be elected,” he continued. "He has contributed enormously to the problem because he is respected among young people. And if he says the occupation is unbearable and that anything can be done to stop it, he is encouraging people to engage in their antisemitic, anti-Israel and anti-American attitudes. He should be ashamed of himself. He should apologize, but he won't."
Dershowitz isn't the only liberal who has spoken out. Leftist comedian Bill Maher called out Obama on his show last week, too.
“I must say I am struggling with people's moral equivalency still. I mean, Barack Obama, who has rarely disappointed me, did so this week....His statement, I mean, is not a horrible statement, but he said, 'If you want to solve the problem, then you have to take in the whole truth, and then you have to admit nobody's hands are clean.' Literally, that's true, of course. But just giving two examples where this is, I don't think, a helpful statement at this moment. First of all, the attack was only a month ago. It's a more savage attack than we've ever seen in reverse. There's a big difference between collateral damage and what Hamas did."
Barack Obama’s anti-Semitism has been on full display for years for those willing to see it. Maher, like others on the left, just refused to see it for so long. Still, it’s good to see him acknowledging it now.
Maher continued, "Secondly, the Israelis are now on a four-hour pause for people to get out. So people say, 'Oh, wow, how big of them.' Ok, but it is a war that the other side started! It's so interesting. When they fired [at] Israel, it was a war. When Israel fires back, it's a war crime. Little crazy....Also, would Hamas do that? Would they give four-hour pauses? No, no pausing. And then Israel's heritage minister was asked in an interview about using a nuke on Gaza. And he said, 'That's one of the possibilities.' He was fired, not allowed in the Cabinet meeting anymore, disavowed by the Prime Minister. Would that happen in reverse? So enough with the moral equivalencies, please."
Between Dershowitz and Maher criticizing Obama in light of his remarks since the Israel-Hamas war, I can’t help but wonder if more people on the left be willing to criticize him now and maybe start looking at his presidency with more objectivity.
