Democrats have long fancied themselves as defenders of "our democracy" and see every aspect of their political agenda as being crucial to the survival of the United States.
I'm not exaggerating. The Brennan Center, a left-wing tank, claimed that "abortion rights are essential to democracy."
Of course, what's essential for "our democracy" is always in flux for the Democratic Party. When Democrats were in the minority during George W. Bush’s presidency, they repeatedly abused the judicial filibuster to block his nominees from getting confirmed. Back then, they hailed the filibuster as a critical tool to protect the rights of the minority party in our government.
A few short years later, when Barack Obama was president and the Republican minority in the Senate used the filibuster to block Obama's judicial nominees, suddenly this critical tool of the minority party was no longer critical for "our democracy," and Senate Democrats eliminated it. In fact, it didn't just become unnecessary to protect minority party rights in "our democracy"; it was also dubbed racist.
Barack Obama, who, as a U.S. senator, had no problem with the filibustering of George W. Bush's judicial nominees, would later call for the elimination of the filibuster, which he dubbed "another Jim Crow relic." Why did he want the filibuster eliminated? So Democrats could pass automatic voter registration, early voting, making Election Day a national holiday, and securing statehood for Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico — all issues meant to enhance the power of Democrats and make it easier for them to steal elections.
Now, we're seeing similar assaults on "our democracy" today from the left, as the prospect of Trump being reelected has them trying anything possible to stop it, be it weaponizing the Justice Department against him or even trying to boot him off the ballot in various states.
A leftist ethics watchdog group, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics (CREW), spearheaded efforts in various states to remove Trump from the ballot, using the 14th Amendment as the pretext. According to CREW, Trump participated in an insurrection against the United States, thereby making him ineligible to run for president. The only problem with this is that the January 6 Capitol riot was not an insurrection, and Trump has never been tried or convicted in participating in an insurrection. In fact, on the day of the riot, he specifically called on his supporters to demonstrate peacefully.
But, according to the radical left, that doesn't matter. To them, he's an insurrectionist, and their opinion is equivalent to a trial and conviction, justifying any means necessary to keep him from seeking office again.

Leftists aren't even hiding the fact that they have to use any means necessary to stop him. Joy Behar, a co-host of ABC's The View, made it very clear that "democracy" isn't as important as stopping Trump.
Joe Walsh, a former Republican turned Trump-hating wacko, posted on X/Twitter that he thinks (incorrectly) that Trump committed insurrection, but "he hasn’t been convicted of insurrection yet," so booting him off the ballot "doesn't seem right." He even predicted that the U.S. Supreme Court will unanimously overrule the Colorado Supreme Court's decision.
Behar was having none of that. "Joe, the ballot box can’t compete with the third party candidates who will take votes from Joe Biden. And let us not forget the electoral college," she said in response. "The law must defeat him."
Now, Behar isn't saying that Trump should be tried and convicted so he can be barred from the presidency. She's actually saying the law and the Constitution should be ignored to keep Trump from the presidency. For the left, "our democracy" isn't important; their power is. Whenever they talk about protecting "our democracy" it's really their way of saying they have to protect their power — even if it means destroying our Constitution.
