I can’t tell you how often, as the author of a book called “The Worst President in History: The Legacy of Barack Obama,” I’ve been asked if I plan to write a new version about Joe Biden. Before you ask, there’s no plan to write such a book, and I think it’s unfortunate that Biden’s incompetence has taken so much attention away from the realities of just how bad Barack Obama’s presidency was for this country.
I’ve always said that it wasn’t enough for the left to elect the first black president in history, he would have to be seen as successful. Sure enough, the same guy who won a Nobel Peace Prize for doing absolutely nothing has placed artificially high on the academic rankings of U.S. presidents. That's why I still feel like it’s part of my mission to ensure that people know just how terrible he was.
There’s no doubt that Obama’s race plays a big part in the way that Democrats overly inflate his record and pretend that he had no scandals. As an old white guy, Biden doesn’t have a race card to play, so we've seen how his legacy isn’t as protected as Obama's. But there are still some true believers trying to boost Biden’s standing in history.
Enter Donna Brazile.
In a brand new op-ed in The Hill, the scandal-plagued former chair of the Democratic National Committee declares that Biden “is one of our greatest presidents” and warns his critics that “smears won’t tarnish his legacy.”
She then proceeds to compare Joe Biden to great presidents like Abraham Lincoln and George Washington — a shameful exercise in partisan wishful thinking. While her article attempts to frame Biden as a transformative leader, it conveniently ignores his administration’s glaring failures, policy missteps, and the skepticism of many Americans regarding his leadership.
The entire thing reads like Biden White House talking points.
First, Brazile’s claim that Biden’s domestic policies rival the New Deal or Great Society is amusing because she forgets that those programs were dramatic failures. Biden’s policies, from massive COVID-19 spending bills to the so-called Inflation Reduction Act, led to spiraling inflation and ballooning national debt. These aren’t transformative successes; they’re fiscal disasters.

And she wouldn’t tout Biden’s “amazing” record without leaning on the long-debunked lie that Biden has “created” 16 million jobs. How many times do fact-checkers have to point out that these jobs didn't come from Biden’s policies but simply the natural rebound from pandemic-related shutdowns before Biden’s allies stop telling it?
Brazile is so desperately spinning Biden's record that she even blamed Trump for the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan.
"Biden ended America’s 20-year war in Afghanistan — the longest in our history — under an agreement negotiated by the Trump administration," she wrote. "Unfortunately, the speedy withdrawal of U.S. troops required under the Trump agreement enabled the Taliban to seize power."
She even praised Joe Biden's border policies, claiming that they "have reduced illegal crossings on our southern border below the level that prevailed when Trump left office, with apprehensions of unauthorized migrants on the border falling by about 75 percent in the last 12 months." What she conveniently left out is that border crossing reached historic highs on Biden's watch, and the administration only started to be more hawkish on border security when public polling showed the issue was hurting the Democratic Party presidential ticket.
Brazile’s op-ed ultimately underscores that while many Democrats are eager to move past Joe Biden, there will always be those who resort to extraordinary efforts to portray him as a great president — despite his record placing him among the lowest, alongside Barack Obama.
