The Only Stand Democrats Take Is Against Trump

X/@ChrisVanHollen

It’s getting harder and harder to make sense of today’s Democratic Party. It's become so radically fixated on opposing Donald Trump that there’s virtually no position it won’t adopt — as long as it puts its members on the other side of him. Take Trump’s deportation of an MS-13 gang member, for instance. Instead of applauding the removal of a dangerous criminal, Democrats are literally flying to El Salvador to advocate for his return to the U.S.

For the Democrats, this isn’t about due process or justice. It’s a reflexive, anti-Trump stance, one that they cling to regardless of how absurd or reckless it looks to the rest of the country.

Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) was the first to jet-set to El Salvador to champion the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, and it just so happens that he is the perfect example of how Trump Derangement Syndrome has destroyed rational thought in the Democratic Party.

It wasn’t all that long ago when Democrats at least pretended to care about public safety? Heck, they even supported a border wall once. But here’s the real proof that Van Hollen is just trying to prove his anti-Trump bona fides with his advocacy of Abrego Garcia. Back in 2017, Van Hollen tweeted against Trump’s deportation policies by saying that we should be "focused on MS-13, not scholarship winners."

Fast forward to 2025, and the same senator is refusing to acknowledge documented evidence of an MS-13 member's gang ties. Why? Because Trump ordered the deportation.

The cognitive dissonance is stunning. When CNN's Dana Bash directly asked Van Hollen if he could certify that his precious "Maryland man" wasn't an MS-13 member, he dodged the question. Instead of answering, he launched into a rehearsed rant about "due process," as if the Constitution grants special rights to illegal immigrants with gang affiliations.

This isn't just about Van Hollen's humiliating pivot. It's about a Democratic Party so consumed by Trump hatred that it's lost all capacity for rational thought. It's reached the point where if Trump says the sky is blue, it'll argue that it's green.

The Maryland senator's newfound advocacy for an MS-13 member would be comical if it weren't so dangerous. He repeatedly refers to Kilmar Abrego Garcia by his first name, as if they're old college buddies, while dismissing clear evidence from law enforcement about gang affiliation. This is what TDS does to the brains of the radical left. It makes them turn hardened criminals into sympathetic figures, as long as Trump opposed them.

The absolute crown jewel of this farce? Van Hollen is criticizing Trump for "going off on social media" about the case, while simultaneously flooding his own X account with impassioned defenses of a deported gang member. The irony would be delicious if it weren't so pathetic.

What we're witnessing isn't just political opposition – it's pathological. Democrats like Van Hollen have become so obsessed with opposing Trump that they've completely abandoned their own stated principles.

Public safety? Border security? All sacrificed on the altar of Orange Man Bad.
