It’s always entertaining when famous actors or singers think that we — normal people — are curious to know their political views. I mean, we all know that members of Hollywood are generally radically liberal. If they take a political position, it’s going to be in favor of abortion, against “climate change,” or — of course — passionately anti-Trump.
Case in point: this op-ed written by actor Robert Redford for NBC News.
“We’re up against a crisis I never thought I’d see in my lifetime.” Namely: “A dictator-like attack by President Donald Trump on everything this country stands for. As last week’s impeachment hearings made clear, our shared tolerance and respect for the truth, our sacred rule of law, our essential freedom of the press and our precious freedoms of speech — all have been threatened by a single man.”
Clearly, Redford has moved from Hollywood to Crazy Town. He’s free to disagree with President Trump’s policies (and his tweets), but this is insane. There’s literally no reason whatsoever to believe that he’s some kind of dictator. If he was, the impeachment procedures against him would’ve been shut down a long time ago, and those pushing for them would’ve been in jail.
That’s all bad enough, but Redford wasn’t done quite yet. After writing that it “hurts” him to see “what is happening to our country,” he actually compares his struggle against the Trump administration to “the threat of fascism” in the 1930s and 1940s. “Growing up as a child during World War II, I watched a united America defend itself against the threat of fascism,” he writes. “I watched this again, during the Watergate crisis, when our democracy was threatened. And again, when terrorists turned our world upside down.”
“We’re at a point in time where I reluctantly believe that we have much to lose — it is a critical and unforgiving moment. This monarchy in disguise has been so exhausting and chaotic, it’s not in the least bit surprising so many citizens are disillusioned,” he concludes.
It’s rather interesting that Redford didn’t come out swinging like this when Hillary Clinton ran for president, isn’t it? Talking about a “monarchy in disguise…” There’s no better way to describe the Clintons and the hold they have on the Democratic Party.
But, and here’s the surprise, Redford doesn’t call for President Trump to be impeached. Instead, he hopes that his fellow Americans will simply vote Trump out of office next year:
Let’s rededicate ourselves to voting for truth, character and integrity in our representatives (no matter which side we’re on). Let’s go back to being the leader the world so desperately needs. Let’s return, quickly, to being simply … Americans.
Ah, yes. Like when Bill Clinton was president: the most powerful man on earth who had an affair with a young staffer and who then proceeded to lie about it under oath.
