WASHINGTON — Rep. Jesus “Chuy” Garcia (D-Ill.) criticized former Immigration and Customs (ICE) Director Tom Homan after their heated exchange on the border crisis during a recent House hearing, arguing that Homan was making “disturbing” statements about undocumented immigrants.
Garcia said that he thought Homan was attempting to “generalize” the crimes that have been committed by undocumented immigrants living in the U.S.
“That became very disturbing to me. He also, during his comments prior to our encounter, was pretty belligerent with other members and the members were, I thought, going out of their way to be polite, to be gentle and to tell him that he would have his turn to express himself,” Garcia said on Wednesday regarding the House Oversight Committee hearing last Friday.
Garcia said he decided to call Homan out for “the way that he was conducting himself.”
“I thought he was a bully and that led to the exchange that followed,” Garcia added.
