Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) advised her undocumented constituents how they should handle themselves if they are confronted by Immigration and Customers Enforcement (ICE).

An attendee at her recent town hall meeting asked her if there’s anything she could do to stop ICE agents from trying to detain undocumented immigrants as they exit the train in New York City.

“The first step is knowing your rights because unfortunately ICE has been documented and known to use manipulative tactics to get you to open a door. They’ll say they have a warrant but it’s not a judicial warrant so the first thing we can do as a community is know our rights. We’ve been passing out materials at bodegas and local areas as well,” Ocasio-Cortez said at the immigration town hall in New York.

Ocasio-Cortez said the public should “know how to be a good ally and friend in this situation.”

“The moment you see or you think you see ICE on a train or anywhere else, you take out your phone and you start recording. We have to do that,” she said.
