Virginia Senate Minority Leader Dick Saslaw told Democratic voters on Sunday that the U.S. would have more abortion clinics than Starbucks in the U.S. if men could get pregnant.
“We need to do the right thing and pass the Equal Rights Amendment. The other thing is women’s reproductive health. It is nobody’s business — nobody’s business who has to access the abortion process other than that woman and I have told audience after audience if men could get pregnant, you would see more abortion clinics in this country than Starbucks, OK?” Saslaw said before Vice President Joe Biden took the stage at a “get out the vote” rally on Sunday in Sterling, Va.
Starbucks has more than 13,000 locations in the U.S.
Saslaw also questioned why any voter would want to be seen with Vice President Mike Pence, who campaigned for Republicans in Virginia Beach ahead of the state elections on Tuesday.
“Let me ask you: who would you rather be seen with, Vice President Biden or Mr. Pence, OK? Can you imagine wanting to have somebody down there like that to remind the voters of who the president was 48 hours or 72 hours before the election?” he said.
