Trump’s Victory Restores Faith In the American Political System

The election of 2024 restores to the Oval Office a president who is determined to put the best interests of his own countrymen first, as any leader should do. That in itself makes it worth celebrating, but it is even greater than that. The 2024 election has reaffirmed, after an extremely dark period, that America is still a republic and free and fair elections are still possible.

As Americans headed to the polls on Tuesday (and before that, during what has now become Election Season), they did so under a cloud. The election of 2020 was an exercise in gaslighting never before seen in American politics. Although they had repeatedly impugned the honesty of the elections of 2000, 2004, and 2016, in 2020 questioning the results of a presidential election became an unpardonable act of “election denialism.”

People were banned from social media and vilified as tinfoil hat-wearing nutters for noticing the numerous suspicious aspects of the 2020 election, such as the phantom water main break that shut down vote-counting in Atlanta, Detroit election officials covering over the windows to shield whatever they were doing from the prying eyes of observers, and so much more. Old Joe Biden ended up with 81 million votes despite barely campaigning at all, and we all had to believe it or else, although on Wednesday morning, with Kamala Harris’ popular vote total approaching 66.5 million, it’s more obvious than ever that the 2020 results were fishy in the extreme.

Many people concluded that a sea change had taken place in American politics. We may once have had free and fair elections, but in purloining the presidency in 2020 and tarring Trump as an “insurrectionist” for calling out their fraud, Old Joe and his henchmen had pushed America into the banana republic category, making the land of the free and the home of the brave into a neo-Venezuela, where elections were simply spurious and obviously fake displays of the people’s love for their dear leader.

This suspicion cast a dark shadow over the 2024 campaign. Numerous Americans were fearful that no matter how the electorate actually voted, Kamala Harris was still going to be inaugurated president on Jan. 20, 2025. That could still happen, although the possibility of it is extremely remote at this point; Trump still has to get through Jan. 6, 2025, with Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Headscarf) having vowed that his victory will not be certified, and there are likely to be numerous legal challenges as well. In the early morning hours of Wednesday, numerous Trump supporters recalled that at that time in 2020, boxes full of Biden votes began to be discovered, and suddenly Trump’s lead melted away. Would it happen again? Millions of people held their breath.

It didn’t happen, and by morning, even the most Trump-hating “news” outlets, including the New York Times, the Washington Post, CNN, and MSNBC, had admitted that Trump had won the election. He won more than that. He won back for all Americans the confidence that our political system is fundamentally sound and that while there is certainly fraud, our elections are still trustworthy reflections of the will of the people. Trump won, in other words, nothing less than our confidence that we still have a republic.

There will be many more challenges. As of this writing in the late morning on Wednesday, Kamala Harris has not conceded defeat. Will she try an Al Gore-style challenge of the election results? It’s possible, but this election wasn’t as close as that of 2000, and so she would face a steep uphill battle.

The left will never recognize the fact because leftists don’t even like the fact that we have free elections in the first place, but Donald Trump’s victory was a victory for them as well. The fact that fair elections are still possible in the United States and that the American people have enough good sense to see through the multiple attempts to smear Donald Trump into unelectability, redound to the benefit of everyone. If America did become the world’s largest and most powerful banana republic, freedom would be on the ropes everywhere.

Instead, Donald Trump has given free societies everywhere a fighting chance. The left isn’t through trying to destroy him, but the astonishing career of this remarkable man is testimony to their continued lack of the total control they crave so ardently and are working toward so relentlessly.

He has given us our country back. This is a cause for rejoicing.
