So There’s That

Unlike the Democrats, I can’t keep pretending that there is more to the transcript/whistleblower/impeachment story than there actually is. So that’s all I will mention about it here today.

Sort of.

The Elephant in the Election Room

President Trump made illegal immigration and border security the centerpiece of his 2016 run for the White House. Very little progress has been made, largely due to the fact that the Democrats have not only fought him every step of the way, but they’ve demonized almost everything he’s done.

The base who wanted action on border security will no doubt still turn out for Trump next year. Amid the incessant disruptive noise — this week it’s the Ukrainian impeachment nonsense — the border security issue remains a constant. Should Trump win re-election, the Democrats’ thorough awfulness on the issue will have done a lot to contribute to the effort.

The awfulness has reached a fever-pitch this year with the arrival of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her brain-dead “Squad” to Congress. Their demonization of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents — likening them to Nazis, for example — is the kind of overreach that mints new Trump voters.

Here in the part of the country that actually has to deal with real border problems, U.S. Border Patrol and ICE agents are respected by most of us. The real world makes us more sane than those occupying Planet AOC.

On Thursday, some of the Democrats on Capitol Hill took a break from barking “Impeachment!” like trained seals and held a hearing about border detention practices. Former Acting ICE Director Thomas Homan — everybody’s favorite former director — once again brought a reality-sized can of whoop-ass to share with House Democrats and it was a thing of beauty:

That was certainly enjoyable. He didn’t say “Ukraine” once.

Taking bets on what next week’s Dem outrage will be.
