Even Garland Couldn’t Make a Legal Case Against Gaetz

The media and internet are all abuzz about the House Ethics Committee report accusing former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) of various drug- and sex-related charges. It is significant that these charges never do seem to be made in a court of law, that even Biden‘s infamously biased attorney general could not make a legal case out of the allegations, and that Democrat congressmen accused of much worse crimes have not been thus targeted by the committee.

In the American system, a man is innocent until proven guilty, and of course, these charges against Gaetz recurring multiple times over multiple years have yet to be proven or rigorously investigated in a court of law. So let us look at some interesting context that might give us pause. Most particularly, let us look at Merrick Garland, Biden‘s AG, who has made a name for himself locking up hundreds of people and arresting many more (from Donald Trump to the J6ers to pro-lifers) on flimsy or outright bogus charges. Indeed, Gaetz roused Garland’s ire for challenging the AG on the trumped-up (pun intended) charges against Trump, which Garland and the DOJ have since dropped. Yet even Garland backed off and did not charge Gaetz officially.

One of the serious charges against Gaetz is allegedly soliciting sex with a minor, and Garland was unable to prosecute Gaetz on sex-trafficking charges. We have literally hundreds of instances (cited above) to illustrate that Garland certainly would have if he could have. Yet he, even he, master of the weak and politicized suit, didn’t. In fact, the House Ethics Committee is whining about how Garland didn’t help them.

This brings us to the House Ethics Committee, which apparently covered up for a sitting Democrat representative accused of sleeping with a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) spy but is going knives out for former Rep. Gaetz. According to The Epoch Times, “investigators did not find sufficient evidence to conclude that Gaetz had violated the federal sex trafficking statute.”

We all know, of course, that there is massive financial and sexual corruption going on in Congress, which actually has a taxpayer-funded account through the Treasury Department to pay charges related to sexual harassment cases and settlements. Yes, really. And we have numerous congressmen bought off by our main enemy Communist China. Yet Gaetz, who already resigned from Congress, is the one being humiliated right before Christmas — why exactly? We have terrorist sympathizers, sexually corrupt Chinese assets, insider traders, pro-criminal advocates, possible traitors, and more in Congress. Only an ex-congressman who has been a thorn in the side of Democrats and establishment Republicans for years is being aggressively targeted based on the testimony of witnesses previously found to lack credibility. Excuse me for being skeptical.

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) had a close liaison with accused CCP asset Fang Fang, who reportedly raised money for Swalwell and possibly slept with him. Yet the Ethics Committee last year notified Swalwell in a letter which he then released that he would not be taking any further action in the investigation.

Nor was there a major exposé showing the evidence to the people, as with Gaetz. And Swalwell, unlike Gaetz, is still in Congress. So are insider trader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), and Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), who not only promotes jihadi propaganda but also is accused of immigration fraud and marrying her own brother, which would be a serious felony. Omar was under an Ethics Committee investigation but ultimately suffered no major consequences; a GOP member of the Ethics Committee even refused to vote to remove Omar from the foreign affairs committee (and the Ethics Committee report on her appears to be wiped from the website).

On the subject of former representatives (as Gaetz is), Liz Cheney is accused of tampering with evidence while on the Jan. 6 committee, which conducted a witch hunt against Trump and dozens of his supporters. Gaetz is not our biggest problem.

Gaetz has himself addressed more than one allegation, and it is only just that we at least listen to his side of the case. For instance, he is accused of allegedly paying for prostitution, but he posted evidence indicating that he gave some money to a woman he was dating at the time who said that it was freely given and not “charged” for a service. In another instance, Gaetz provided part of a guest log for a party that he is accused of attending, but which he says he did not attend. The log seemingly supports his claim, showing the other attendees but not him.

Let me end with this thought. When I was in Vietnam, I went to a propaganda museum there that supposedly showcased evidence of mass American atrocities there during the war (you’ll be shocked to know there was no mention of the genocidal and exceptionally vicious crimes of the Viet Cong). Our local tour guide recommended that we look at the pictures but not read the captions, because, as he said, very often what we think we see in a picture is heavily dependent on what we are told we are looking at. Thus the propagandistic caption on a photo may seem very accurate until we find out the truth is no such thing.

I cannot help but remember his words in this situation. Until and unless we are able to examine both sides of the case, and understand whether or not it is possible to have these charges stand up in a court of law, we ought to withhold judgment on Gaetz. If the charges are true, they are terribly serious, and he must be held accountable. If they are not, this is a political hit job. Politicians have been weaponizing sexual charges against political opponents in America since the dawn of our country’s existence, and often the most publicized cases were the least accurate (e.g., John Quincy Adams and Clarence Thomas). There is good reason to believe that there is far more to this case than what the mainstream media and some congressmen would like you and me to believe.
