The Democrat Party, now as always, harms the very U.S. demographics it claims to help. From business-killing minimum wage hikes to job-stealing illegal aliens, Democrats’ claims of championing workers — especially minorities — are flat-out lies.
Back in the mid-1800s, even before the Republican Party came into being, a young Abraham Lincoln was frustrated by Democrat hypocrisy, by a party whose policies hurt the groups they were supposed to help. The hypocrisy has only gotten worse since the days of Lincoln, and just as Democrats once falsely claimed that slavery was for the good of the slaves, so they now claim that unrestricted illegal migration and idiotic economic policies are wonderful, even as these wreak havoc in cities, states, and at the national level.
Democrat-run Seattle hiked its minimum wage up to $20.67 an hour for 2025, MRCTV’s Eric Scheiner reported. But since money doesn’t grow on trees or magically materialize out of thin air, a number of Seattle businesses, including “black-owned” businesses, had to celebrate the new year by closing their doors. The minimum wage increase isn’t the only reason, but it is a factor. For Democrat politicians, Black Lives Don’t Matter when they’re small business owners.

As the New Year begins, Seattle is witnessing the closure of several prominent Black-owned businesses. Among them is Catfish Corner, a Central District institution that has served southern-style catfish for 40 years… Catfish Corner is not alone in closing its doors. Nate Jackson’s Comedy Club in Tacoma, one of the largest Black-owned comedy clubs in the country, has also shut down. Flowers Just 4 U, a Central District staple operated by Mary Wesley for decades, will close on January 15 as Wesley retires.
“For about 25 years, my grandparents built this business from the ground up,” said Catfish Corner owner Terrell Jackson. “I wanted to show my grandparents that I could bring this business back and make it beautiful again.”
Unfortunately, rising costs, including the extremely high Seattle minimum wage, forced Jackson to close his doors. “With the minimum wage at $20 an hour, it digs into our profit margins. I see many local businesses closing for the same reason. It’s time for me to step away,” Jackson explained.
Minimum wage hikes always hurt businesses, most especially small businesses. This is very typical of Democrat policies that are advertised as compassionate, but which are in fact incredibly damaging. Each federal regulator costs America over 130 private sector jobs every year and costs the U.S. economy over $16 million annually, and small businesses are the hardest hit. The Democrat Party is not the party of the worker just because it is Marxist. Indeed, like all good Marxists, Democrats kneecap the workers they profess to champion.

Speaking of which, the claim that illegal aliens must be brought in to do blue-collar jobs because Americans won’t do them is false. Americans took the jobs before there was a constant stream of illegals willing to work for lower wages, and I personally know a number of young people who would be glad to get any job if they were hired. But the ones employers are hiring are migrants.

Democrats pretend that it is compassionate to allow in so many illegal aliens, even though hundreds of thousands of them are criminals and tens of thousands of migrant children have been trafficked both by cartels and by the Biden-Harris administration. It is not compassionate to anyone, least of all to the blue-collar American worker.

In fact, as I recently highlighted, U.S.-born men’s workforce participation dropped in the last year by over a million, as supposed “job gains” went to migrants.

In his infamous 1837 speech on slavery, Democrat Sen. John C. Calhoun famously asserted, “I hold that in the present state of civilization, where two races of different origin, and distinguished by color, and other physical differences, as well as intellectual, are brought together, the relation now existing in the slaveholding States between the two, is, instead of an evil, a good—a positive good… there never has yet existed a wealthy and civilized society in which one portion of the community did not, in point of fact, live on the labor of the other.”
That, of course, was why America was marvelous — in the case of slavery as in so many other ways, it defied the historical odds and proved after the Civil War that a free society could not only exist but thrive and prosper at an exceptional rate. The main point, however, is that the Democrat elites of today still retain that attitude that Calhoun so frankly confessed, only that they have expanded their disdain to include Americans of all races whom they consider inferior or unimportant for one arbitrary reason or another.
They want cheap illegal alien labor, an impoverished native population, and top-down government control. Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell, Alejandro Mayorkas, Nancy Pelosi, and all the other Democrat elites believe and want you to believe the lie that there “never has yet existed a wealthy and civilized society in which one portion of the community did not, in point of fact, live on the labor of the other.”
