The Left Doesn't Want to Abide by Its Proposed Title IX Changes

There's a lot of "Do as I say, not as I do," among the left, isn't there? It wasn't all that long ago that several Democratic officials nationwide were caught violating the COVID-19 restrictions they had imposed. Dr. Fauci chose not to wear a mask at a baseball game once, and cameras caught him.

Many on the left sing the praises of public education but choose elite private schools for their own children. Many push for gun control while either owning guns themselves or enjoying private or publicly funded security. And so on...

And now there's the issue of the Biden administration's proposed changes to Title IX, which would unconstitutionally reinterpret the law so that a student’s self-proclaimed "gender identity" would be treated as the student’s sex under the law, among other changes. The change would force schools to allow boys to use girl's bathrooms and locker rooms, play on girls' sports teams, and even share housing. Noncompliance with the changes would mean that schools could lose federal assistance.

On Tuesday, Rep. Burgess Owens (R-Utah) questioned Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona about the new rules in a brutally effective way.

"Mr. Secretary, you are in a very unique position to impact the lives of futures and fortunes of millions of female athletes. Americans on both sides of this debate need to know how deep your commitment is. Would you force your daughter to undress in the bathroom with boys who are also undressing?” Owens asked him.

Cardona, who does have a school-age daughter, refused to answer.

“I am not going to be commenting on athletics rules that we haven’t proposed,” he replied.

Despite repeated efforts by Owens to get a response, Cardona wouldn't answer.

“If your daughter reported she felt uncomfortable in a boy’s presence in a bathroom or locker room, would that be considered by your administration discrimination or bigotry?” Owens asked.

"As an educator for over 25 years—"

"You can't say 'yes' or 'no' to that?" Owens interjected.

"I'd love to respond to your question," Cardona replied.

"Okay," said Owens. "So 'yes' or 'no,'... would it be considered discrimination if she did not want that to happen?"

Cardona again tried to run out the clock with a nonresponse, so Owens kept on with his questioning.

“Girls have now entered in contact sports of boxing and wrestling. Would you allow your daughter to physically fight and get beat up by a boy who called himself a girl?” Owens asked, again requesting a simple "Yes," or "No" response.

“I'd be happy to, once we finalize our regulations on Title IX athletics, to come back and have a conversation with you,” Cardona said.

It's obvious why Cardona refused to answer the question. It's not because the rules haven't been finalized; it's because, deep down, even those who are pushing these new rules truly believe in them. They're just too beholden to the LGBTQ lobby to stand against it.

Cardona wouldn't want his daughter to be forced to undress in front of a boy or compete against a boy. If he truly thought it was a fair and inclusive policy, he would have said "yes." If he believed that "gender identity" and biological sex were equal, he would have said "yes" without any hesitation whatsoever. Instead, he used lame excuses to avoid answering at all.

Why can't the left own this position and live by it?
