71 Percent of Democrats Think Hillary Clinton Should Not Drop Out if Indicted

A vast majority of Democrats do not care if Hillary Clinton is indicted for her email scandal — they want her to keep running anyway. Surprisingly, almost a third of Republicans and nearly half of independents also think Clinton should press on, even if the FBI comes knocking.

Conservatives have long speculated that if an indictment materializes, the Dowager Empress of Chappaqua is finished: The Democratic Party will abandon her and elevate Vice President Joe Biden (remember him?) instead. Even if that does not happen, a scandal-plagued Hillary Clinton will not be able to make it to the White House, and her loss will be legendary.

A Rasmussen poll released Tuesday seems to hint in the other direction. Almost three-quarters (71 percent) of Democrats say Clinton should keep running if she’s indicted, but even more astonishing, nearly half (46 percent) of independents agree! And perhaps most shamefully, a full 30 percent of Republicans also think an indicted Clinton should not throw in the towel.

Overall, that’s 50 percent of voters who say a Hillary indictment should not derail her presidential run. Unbelievable.

Nevertheless, 40 percent of voters say they are less likely to vote for Clinton due to the email issue, but many of them are likely Republicans who would never vote for her anyway. Nearly half (48 percent) of all voters say the issue won’t affect their vote, but a full 8 percent say the issue makes them more likely to vote for the former secretary of State.

Yes, a woman broke the law and put national security at risk, and that makes you more likely to support her as president? Do tell me how this makes any sense, please.

Finally, only 65 percent consider it likely the former first lady did indeed break the law by sending and receiving emails containing classified information through her private server. Forty-seven percent say it is very likely. A full 30 percent say Clinton likely did not break the law, and 16 percent of those insisted it’s “Not At All Likely.” Worse, these findings are unchanged from January, showing that breaking news coverage of impending legal challenges for Clinton have not convinced anyone she broke the law.

So much for the conservative theory that Americans care for the integrity of our public officials. Then again, this is old news — who’s the Republican nominee again?
