As Congress moves to pass a bill to fund the government — once again without the money required to fund a wall on the southern border — a Purple Heart veteran amputee has launched a GoFundMe to crowdfund the money to fulfill Donald Trump’s promise and build the wall. That effort has raised $3.5 million in three days.
“As a veteran who has given so much, 3 limbs, I feel deeply invested in this nation to ensure future generations have everything we have today,” Brian Kolfage wrote in the opening to the GoFundMe campaign.
“Too many Americans have been murdered by illegal aliens and too many illegals are taking advantage of the United States taxpayers with no means of ever contributing to our society,” Kolfage argued. “I have grandparents who immigrated to America legally, they did it the correct way and it’s time we uphold our laws, and get this wall BUILT! It’s up to Americans to help out and pitch in to get this project rolling.”
The veteran noted that if the 63 million people who voted for Trump each pledge $80, that would raise $5 billion, enough to build the wall.
That seems far too ambitious, since millions who voted for Trump did so for other reasons (religious freedom, fear or disgust of Hillary Clinton, et cetera). But then again, this crowdfunding campaign has already raised $3.5 million — a truly impressive sum, even though it may be pocket change compared to what is needed.
Perhaps this effort will send a message to Democrats in Congress, however. Normally, Republicans oppose raising taxes and push for lower taxes at every opportunity. In this case, conservatives are voluntarily standing up to give the government money. That’s an eye-opening move, make no mistake.
Kolfage’s GoFundMe is only likely to gain more traction. The triple amputee veteran will go on Laura Ingraham’s Fox News show Thursday night and on Fox Business Friday morning. If he can raise $3.5 million before this debut, he could bring in $10 million by Christmas. That would only be 1 percent of his goal — $1 billion.
